Chinthaka Mallikrachchi received a bachelor’s of science of engineering honours in Civil Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in 2005 and a PhD in Structural Mechanics from the University of Cambridge in 2011. He spent four years at the Space Structures Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology first as a special graduate student and then as a postdoctoral research scholar.
His general area of research includes self-deployable fibre composite booms, thin membranes, optics based non-contact measuring techniques and fatigue behaviour of slender steel masts. He is currently collaborating with the Space Structures Laboratory on folding and deployment behaviour of dual-matrix composite booms.
Dr Mallikarachchi is a member of AIAA, Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) and Society of Structural Engineers Sri Lanka. He is a Charted Structural Engineer of IESL. Dr. Mallikarachchi is the author of over 20 technical publications.
